Termites Should Not Be Allowed to Feed On Your infrastructures!

Every year the termites can cause a damage of over 7 billion properties all over the world. They can enter your house through a crack as small as 1/64 of an inch. Upon entry in your house, they build a nest, develop their community and cause extensive damage to your furniture. You need to spend thousands of money to get them repaired.

Types of Termite

Let’s have a look at the four most common types of termite

Drywood Termites

This is the most common type of termite that can be found throughout the world. As their name suggest, they live in drywood and eat through beams, walls, etc, until they are hollowed out. Unlike many other species, they can live in dry conditions for long periods of time and don’t need soil to survive. These termites are able to receive the moisture they need from the wood they eat. Drywood termites are found in warmer climates.

Subterranean Termites

This type of termite can only survive in the soil underground. Subterranean termites need high moisture levels. This species prefers to eat soft, spring wood fiber. They build mud tubes to contain the humidity levels necessary for survival. These termites construct mud tunnels on anything that comes into contact with the ground. Similar to Drywood termites, subterranean termites are most common in warmer climates.

Dampwood Termites

These termites live in wood with high moisture content and therefore don’t require contact with the soil to survive. Dampwood termites are mainly found in moist wood logs, stumps and dead trees and can sometimes be found near water leaks or wall voids, however termite infestations in buildings and structures are very rare. These termites are much bigger than the other species.

Formosan Termites

Formosan termites are the most destructive species of termite. They form cartons inside the wood to retain the moisture they need until they can find a water source larger enough for their whole colony. Formosan termites are sometimes classified as subterranean termites, but are slightly larger in size. The size difference allows them to cause more damage than other species.
